Within the scope of the Social Protection Project carried out by WALD, an event titled “You Can Do It” was organized with the participation of clients from the Pendik Social Protection Desk. Held at the Pendik Municipality Ahmedi Han Cultural Center, the event took place with the participation of refugee and local women with the aims of preventing violence against women, raising awareness against violence, and providing consciousness. The training was organized due to the observations that cases of violence against women frequently reach WALD Social Protection Desks, and that female clients tend to lack knowledge about the types of violence, are unable to share this situation with anyone when they encounter violence, believe that they are committing a crime if they do share it, and hold negative beliefs that there is nothing they can do. During the training, information was conveyed regarding the importance of sharing and the fact that violence against women is a significant problem not only in certain countries but all over the world. It was emphasized that the more women voice, share, and unite against this problem, the faster solutions can be found for their issues.
In the training, which progressed interactively and detailed the concepts of Gender Roles and Gender Equality, the consequences arising from gender inequality between women and men were discussed mutually. At the end of the training, women were provided with information on which institutions they can apply to when they encounter any case of violence, and personal care sets were gifted to the participating women.
