November 20, World Children’s Day is celebrated for recognition of children rights with the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Child accepted in 1989. The aim of the day is to raise awareness for child rights and children who cannot use these rights. The Convention specifies that each individual under the age of 18 is a child. The basic values of the Convention include nondiscrimination, protection of children’s interests, living, development and engagement.
On this meaningful day, a movie event was organized by WALD Sancaktepe Social Protection Desk with refugee children and children from host community. 90 children participated in this event and it was aimed to enhance their social cohesions and friendship relations, teach them to show respect to differences and have the skills to act together with activities. öBefore the event, children released the colorful balloons up to the sky with the motto “We want a fairer and more peaceful world”.
After they released the balloons, they watched a movie which tells the life story of a child “who dreams of being a musician and chases his dream by getting all difficulties over” with popcorns. The reason why this movie was chosen was to encourage children to follow their dreams.
Within the framework of World Children’s Day events; four refugee children selected for child assembly through WALD Beylikdüzü Social Protection Desk visited Mr. Mehmet Murat Çalık, Mayor of Beylikdüzü Municipality in his office with their friends who are also members of the Child Assembly. Extending their thanks to the Mayor for his supports to the Child Assembly, children also experienced the pride of expressing their wills.
