Within our Social Protection Project, the event “Local Food Competition” was held on March 12, 2019 for March 8, World Women’s Day with the collaboration of Pendik Municipality and participation of refugee women and women from host community.
The event was held in Pendik, Çamlık Center for Unhindered Living and 15 women competitors were selected to cook the foods special to their regions in two separate kitchens and presented the foods to the jury and guests.
The aim of the event was to raise social cohesion in the community and remember our local and unique values on the basis of universality of foods. Speaking at the beginning of the program with full of an exciting and sweet rush, Dr. Kenan Şahin, Mayor of Pendik Municipality of that period mentioned about the importance of social cohesion and stated that such events contributed to a mutual understanding and enrichment of communication channels between these two communities. Women who came out in the competition were given awards by Dr. Kenan Şahin. With honorable mentions, all participant women were also given presents in the remembrance of the world women’s day.
