On the occasion of Brussels Conference titled “Support to Future of Syria and Region” which was held in Brussels on March 12-14, 2019, a special night themed “Harmony of Future” was organized by the European Union Turkey Delegation in Beşiktaş Mustafa Kemal Cultural Center.
The aim of the event that we also participated as WALD; was to emphasize the importance of forward efforts, hopes and dreams not only of refugees, but also the host community hosting them generously.
Before the event, the guests also gave a considerable attention to social cohesion- and development-themed photograph exhibition prepared by the World Food Programme (WFP), World Health Organization (WHO) and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP). Ambassador Christian Berber, Head of Delegation of the EU to Turkey stated he was glad to be present in the event “Harmony of Future” and children from refugees host community had the opportunity express their dreams and hopes thanks to universality of music in this program.
Mert Fırat, an actor and the UNDP Turkey Goodwill Ambassador presented the event and Children Choir of War Victims and many amateur music groups of Turkish and refugee people took the stage and sang their songs. Having drawn a great interest, the members of the Children Choir of War Victims consist of refugee children who had to leave Syria due to war and have been living in Hatay since then. After the concerts, the film “Tell Me Youth Story”, which was prepared by refugee young people with students of Bilkent University and drew a great attention from guests was also screened, then the event concluded.
