“Kartepe Summit: Urbanization and Happy Cities” was held on October 25-27, 2019. The summit was hosted by Kocaeli Metropolitan Municipality and Mehmet Duman, WALD Chairman of the Executive Board participated at the summit as a speaker. An opening session, 13 academic sessions, four special sessions, two forums and a workshop titled “Urban Economy: Labor and Employment” were organized within the scope of the summit.
The session titled “The United Nations and Future of Cities” which was organized on the second day of the summit and moderated by Prof. Dr. Dilek Demirbaş from İstanbul University attracted an intensive attention by participants. Mehmet Duman, WALD Chairman of the Executive Board made a presentation titled “New Urban Agenda and The Bogotá Commitment” in the session.
Many academicians, press members and politicians from various countries participated at this three-day summit where the most important issues of cities were handled, such as transportation, employment, environment, hygiene, social services, culture and art, health, sports, climate, disasters and security, etc. Discussions constituted a base for developing a discourse by policy-makers and decision-makers on different solutions.
