Within the framework of the Social Protection Project carried out in cooperation with the World Academy for Local Government and Democracy (WALD), the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), and Küçükçekmece Municipality, a workshop titled “Children Learn About Their Bodily Rights” was organized by the child protection team of the WALD Küçükçekmece Urban Adaptation Unit. Held with the participation of children aged 7–14, the event contributed to raising awareness about children's bodily rights and developing their abilities to ensure personal safety and defend their boundaries.
Throughout the workshop, interactive methods were provided to help children realize their rights over their bodies, and the importance of the right to say “No” was emphasized. Participants had the opportunity to gain awareness on setting personal boundaries, defending these boundaries, obtaining consent, and giving consent, while learning the foundations of healthy social relationships. At the beginning of the workshop, questions were asked to raise awareness among children, and the importance of bodily boundaries and personal space was explained using visual materials. As the educational process continued, children actively gained experience in protecting their bodily boundaries through video screenings and drama activities. Skills such as saying “No,” asking for permission, and drawing personal boundaries were practiced through drama exercises. This information was supported with tips on how children can use the concept of consent in their daily lives. The reinforcement of the knowledge acquired was ensured through group games and interactive activities. This process helped children express themselves better and protect their personal boundaries more effectively.
The event concluded with a fun closing accompanied by the song “Saying No.” This song ensured that the children retained what they learned in their memories, transforming the event into a joyful and memorable experience.
