Painting is a communication tool, through which individuals find the opportunity to transfer their inner world, anxieties, and desires onto the canvas. Serving as a tool for relaxation and rehabilitation, painting also enables individuals to express their emotions. In this direction, on December 12, 2019, under the leadership of the WALD Kağıthane Social Protection Desk and with the participation of women from refugee and host communities, a painting event was held at the Masterpiece Art Workshop located in Galata.
The event began with providing information about the psychological benefits the workshop would offer to participants, and the program continued with the sharing of information regarding oil painting techniques by the assigned instructor. The purpose of the event is for women to express, through painting, the different emotions caused by the psychological fatigue they experienced due to having to migrate from their countries, and to relax through this method. Later in the event, while creating their paintings under the guidance of the instructor, the participants also found the opportunity to socialize with one another. After completing their paintings, the participants examined other works at the Masterpiece Art Workshop and had the opportunity to own the paintings they liked.
At the end of the event, the participants were informed about the historical background of the Galata Tower, and a Galata tour was conducted. The event concluded with the participants stating that they felt very relaxed and were extremely happy to visit the Galata Tower, which they had not previously had the opportunity to explore.
