“I Recognize My Emotions” Psychoeducation and Film Screening Held.

With the aim of increasing children’s emotional awareness, helping them recognize basic emotions, and supporting their emotional regulation skills, WALD organized a psychoeducation session and film screening themed “I Recognize My Emotions.”

As the World Academy for Local Government and Democracy (WALD), we organized a psychoeducation session themed “I Recognize My Emotions” with the participation of children and parents whom we serve in the fields of social protection and social cohesion.

During the psychoeducation session, basic emotions—namely happiness, sadness, anger, fear, and disgust—were addressed. Information was provided on the function of each emotion in an individual's life, the natural and universal nature of emotions, the difference between emotion and behavior, and healthy emotional regulation methods that can be used to cope with intense emotions. Age-appropriate examples were used to conduct a question-and-answer session and interactive applications. Participants were encouraged to share examples of emotions they experience in their daily lives and to reflect on the feelings that might arise in different situations.

Following the psychoeducation, a screening of the film “Inside Out” was held to reinforce the knowledge acquired. Before the film, participants were asked to pay attention to the emotions experienced by the characters, the effects of these emotions on behavior, and how the characters managed their emotions. After the film, a brief evaluation session was organized to help children define basic emotions and support them in evaluating the relationship between emotion and behavior through the characters in the film.

As a result of the event, the children’s knowledge and awareness regarding basic emotions were enhanced, and their skills in expressing emotions, developing empathy, and applying healthy coping mechanisms were supported. Thanks to the complementary nature of the psychoeducation and the film screening, it was evaluated that the event achieved its planned goals.
