Led by the Bağcılar Social Protection Desk, in cooperation with the Union of Organizations for Social Health and Medical Association (UOSSM), an "Informational Seminar on Depression, Its Symptoms, and Signs" was organized between March 21 and 24, 2019.
The fact that refugees generally have a history of war, coupled with the economic problems and challenges regarding access to health rights they experience after arriving in Turkey, leads to mental health problems such as depression or post-traumatic stress disorder. In this direction, in cooperation with Bağcılar Municipality, an awareness-raising seminar on depression was organized with participants from both refugee and local communities residing in the Bağcılar district.
Aimed at helping individuals recognize the problem, learn coping methods, and gain awareness, the seminar covered topics such as mental health, feeling sad, depression, symptoms and emotions of depression, thinking, and behavior. The seminar concluded with a brief awareness simulation to conceptualize the topics discussed.
