The World Academy for Local Government and Democracy Foundation (WALD) International E-Parliament 6th Youth Sessions took place on December 6, 2023, at Yeditepe University in collaboration with the Yeditepe University Center for Global Education and Culture Research Center (KEKAM).

Moderated by Nuran ÇAKMAKÇI, the Director of Demirören Media Education Projects Group, the session was attended by Bedrettin DALAN, the Founder and Honorary President of the İstek Foundation and Yeditepe University, Hülya KAYA, the Governor of Yalova, Asya VARBANOVA, the Director of UN Women Türkiye, Elif KARACAOĞLU, the Head of Demirören Human Relations Group, and Prof. Dr. Yeşim EKİNCİ, the Vice Rector of Yeditepe University.

Equality and Women Entrepreneurship:

Governor KAYA emphasized the importance of supporting women entrepreneurship as a fundamental factor for economic development and employment, stating, “We must nurture entrepreneurial women; this is the remedy in the fight against violence against women. Women need to stand on their own feet.”

Prof. Dr. EKİNCİ highlighted the necessity of equality within the family and society, emphasizing that equal rights and responsibilities should be granted to individuals.

VARBANOVA, meanwhile, stated that solving the problems “our world faces will become even more challenging unless women have a greater presence in leadership and decision-making positions.” She continued, “I do not believe we can solve any global problem or conflict humanity and our planet face without reaching this goal.”

Media and Economic Development:

KARACAOĞLU, for her part, emphasized that supporting women entrepreneurship is one of the key factors for economic development, speaking on behalf of Demirören Media. KARACAOĞLU also drew attention to the significant role that media can play in this regard.

Women and Leadership:

Furthermore, during the session themed “Women and Leadership in the Global World,” local and international students engaged in discussions on the effectiveness of women leaders in international development, economics, peace, and security. The session focused on generating more inclusive and peaceful solutions to overcome challenges at the global level.

 

With the active participation of young people, the session provided an opportunity for future leaders to share their perspectives and find more comprehensive solutions to global issues.
