UCLG Elected New Presidents in South Korea…

The United Cities and Local Governments World Organization (UCLG) elected its new presidents at the "Seventh World Congress" held in Daejeon, South Korea on 10-14 October 2022. The Congress, attended by World Academy of Local Government and Democracy (WALD) Chairman of the Executive Board as well as the Secretary General of United Cities and Local Governments Middle East and West Asia (UCLG-MEWA) Dr. Mehmet Duman and President of South Korea Yoon Suk-Yeol, was held this year with the theme "Local and Regional Governments Overcome Barriers as a Single Community".


UCLG World Organization consists of seven regional organizations and has more than 240 thousand members. After the election with the participation of the members of the organization the decision that following mayors will undertake the duty of UCLG World Organization Presidency for a period of one year: Accordingly, Montevideo Metropolitan Mayor Carolina Cosse from Uruguay, Konya Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Uğur İbrahim Altay from Türkiye, Hague Metropolitan Mayor Jan Van Zanen from Netherlands and Daejeon Metropolitan Mayor Jang-Woo Lee from South Korea. In his speech, Altay, who will undertake the duty of UCLG World Organization Presidency in the 100th anniversary of our Republic, stated that they will continue their efforts for world peace with the same determination.
