SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT, URBAN AGRICULTURE AND BIODIVERSITY FORUM
Climate change and its negative effects, decrease in biodiversity, increase in human-induced environmental disasters and risks including natural disasters have become a non-ignorable global threat to life on Earth. In this regard, “Sustainable Development, Urban Agriculture and Biodiversity Forum” will be held in Konya between 25-27 May in cooperation with WALD, Konya Metropolitan Municipality and AGRICITIES, with the aim of climate changes, the effects of climate changes on the agricultural sector and the protection of biological diversity in Turkey in the light of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
It is a stubborn fact that urban agriculture will occupy an important position in the transformation process of cities towards more sustainable and livable cities. Within the context of sustainable urban development policies, supporting agricultural activities in cities makes it becomes essential for local governments to participate effectively in this process. Determining the effects of climate change on the agricultural sector will also serve the purpose of protecting biological diversity and ensuring the transition to sustainable agriculture in Turkey.
International and Turkish academics, politicians, bureaucrats, local administrators, business people and local government representatives will participate to the forum. With the Sustainable Development, Urban Agriculture and Biodiversity Forum, it is aimed to develop strategies and policies and to raise awareness on climate change, prevention of climate change, its effects on the agricultural sector, climate-friendly agriculture, protection of biological diversity, urban planning and urban agriculture.
On the second day of the forum (26 May 2022); The third WALD E-Parliament Youth Session themed "SDG 12: Responsible Production and Consumption" and "SDG 13: Climate Action" will be held as part of the “Sustainable Development, Urban Agriculture and Biodiversity Forum” in order to increase democratic participation and democracy awareness among youth in line with the SDGs.
