Summer School for Children: Science and Life Skills Workshops
As WALD, “Science with Children Summer School” activities were held between 17-21 July with the support of Sancaktepe Science Center and Sancaktepe Urban Adaptation Unit. The event was held under the topics of biology, astronomy, chemistry, design and wooden toys.
Instructors provided children with an active learning environment, enabled them to receive individual attention, to feel more valuable and to approach learning with a positive attitude. At the same time, participating in fun activities helped children to know themselves better and improve their success by increasing their self-confidence. Children who have adaptation problems at school and in social life improved their social skills by making new friends thanks to these activities. Thus, the summer school had a positive effect on children's self-esteem and self-confidence, contributing to their cognitive development and abstract thinking abilities.
In order to increase children's interest in science and to enable them to have an enjoyable learning experience, another of the activities we organized as WALD at the Kağıthane Social Protection Desk on 20-28 July was the “Health Awareness in Children” event. Self-care skills, which are essential for leading a healthy life, constitute one of the important periods in children's lives. The acquisition of these skills contributes positively to the physical, mental and psychological development of children.
With drama and design works for children, it was ensured that they took a more active place in social environments by reinforcing their sense of self-confidence by doing their own work, while awareness was raised about their self-care skills, mental development levels and physical maturity.
