Global Resilience Forum addresses vital themes in Dubai

The inaugural Global Resilience Forum, which took place on Oct. 5 in Dubai, brought together over 150 VIP delegates, 500 attendees, and featured insights from 35 speakers worldwide. Their shared goal was to explore essential strategies for strengthening resilience in the face of climate change.

Mehmet Duman, Chairman of the Executive Board of the World Academy for Local Government and Democracy (WALD), also attended this significant event.

The Forum was the result of a collaborative effort by Dubai Police, the United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNDRR), the Dubai Resilience Centre, and MCR2030. Distinguished figures who graced the opening ceremony included Abdulla Al Basti, Secretary General of The Executive Council of Dubai; Lieutenant General Abdullah Khalifa Al Marri, Commander-in-Chief of Dubai Police; Razan Al Mubarak, UN Climate Change High-Level Champion for COP28 and IUCN President; Ali Saeed Al Neyadi, Chairman of the National Crisis, Emergency, and Disaster Management Authority; and Mami Mizutori, the Special Representative of the United Nations Secretary-General for Disaster Risk Reduction and head of UNDRR.

In his remarks at the forum's inauguration, Lieutenant General Khalifa Al Marri extended his gratitude to the event's partners, stakeholders, and participants, acknowledging their invaluable contributions to the resounding success of the inaugural Global Resilience Forum.

Razan Al Mubarak, UN Climate Change High-Level Champion, delivered a keynote address that carried a stark warning: the global climate crisis would persist without effective governance.

She underscored the urgent need for a worldwide comprehension of resilience, especially in light of the escalating risks posed by climate change.

Al Mubarak highlighted the increasing frequency and severity of climate-related events, emphasizing the critical necessity of not only building resilient infrastructure but also establishing social and governance systems capable of unified responses to these challenges.

During the two-day forum, attendees engaged in in-depth discussions on pivotal subjects such as risk governance, a comprehensive approach to reducing risk across society, and collaborative efforts with the private sector, technology providers, and innovators to devise solutions for risk reduction.
