ESSENTIAL TRAINING ON THE INTERNATIONAL DAY FOR ELIMINATION OF VIOLENCE AGAINST WOMEN

Within the scope of "November 25 International Day for Elimination of Violence Against Women", a training on the protection measures that can be applied by women who are exposed to violence or are at risk of being exposed to violence in the Law No. 6284 on the Protection of the Family and the Prevention of Violence Against Women has been carried out by World Academy for Local Government and Democracy (WALD).

This training was held on December 6, 2021, at Maltepe Municipality Gülsuyu Women's Solidarity and Social Life Center with the participation of refugees and local women.

Within the scope of the Social Protection Project funded by the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), it is aimed to raise awareness of violence against women and to inform victims of violence about the application mechanisms to the relevant authorities.

The training, which started with psychologist Büke Okkay's speech about the aim and importance of the training, continued with Maltepe Municipality Labor Specialist Sinem Polat's speech emphasizing sexism in society and what can be done to prevent it. During the course of the program, WALD Social Protection Desk Att. Esra Kuğu gave a presentation titled “Combating Violence Against Women Under Law No. 6284” and provided legal information within the scope of legal legislation. Att. Kuğu also gave information about the concept of violence against women and she classified physical violence, economic violence, sexual violence, psychological violence, and one-sided pursuit by giving examples during her presentation. She shared information about the KADES application, 112 Emergency Call Center, 183 Ministry of Family and Social Policies, 155 Police Helplines, Prosecutor's Office, and the procedure for applying to the Family Court, and the preventive and protective mechanisms in the fight against violence against women according to Articles 3, 4, and 5 of the Law No. 6284.

In the end of the program, a small discussion was held with the participation of women. The questions of “Should more severe sanctions be applied? Can't corporal punishment be given? Why are perpetrators released so soon?” were discussed during the session.
