Cognitive Errors During the Pandemic
“Cognitive Errors During the Pandemic” event was organized in cooperation with the Turkish Red Crescent Association Sancaktepe Community Center on April 08, 2021 in order to protect the mental health of refugees and to contribute to their well-being during the Covid-19 pandemic process. A total of 30 Syrians, 25 women and 5 men, under temporary protection participated in the event.
In the event, details of the connection between thoughts and feelings were shared by Hicret Ardıç, Turkish Red Crescent’s trainer. After that, the information presented on common cognitive errors. This section was focused on how cognitive errors frequently made by the trainer such as overgeneralization, mental filtering, over-floccinaucinihilipilification, mind reading and catastrophizing thought errors affect feelings and behaviors.
The second part of the event was focused on what kind of cognitive errors can be made during the pandemic process and how to avoid these thought mistakes in order to protect mental health. In the third session of the event, the importance and right time of getting psychological support were discussed. In this session, it was mentioned once again that appeals can be made to WALD and the Red Crescent on all the issues discussed. The event was ended with a question and answer session.
