AN IMPORTANT STEP FOR THE SAFETY OF CHILDREN
Awareness of privacy is extremely important for children to protect themselves. Therefore, it is important for children to be aware of their privacy and receive education on this issue. In this context, as WALD, a 4-weeks module event was conducted on “Privacy Education for Children” within the scope of Psychosocial Support Education on April 6th 2023. In this event, topics such as; sexual information, the subjects of being aware of the “privacy” of him/herself and the others, protecting his/her private space in social life and setting boundaries correctly were discussed with children. This Education paves the way for children to respect their personal spaces to be aware of their own and others’ private spaces, and to distance themselves from people. Privacy education aims to protect the personality, mental well-being and sexuality of the child. In order to provide this education correctly, parents should also have sufficient knowledge and intelligence.
Psychologists came together with families in order to make their reflexes conscious along with the social behavior skills that will be acquired by the child in the 4th Module of the training. Points to be considered in privacy education; It was emphasized that children should not be alone with strangers, not forced physical contact, not sitting on other people's laps in public transportation, not going to boarding houses with adult children, and keeping them away from environments with abusive, inappropriate jokes and hand gestures. In addition, their awareness was raised about the needs for parents to monitor their use of social media, to keep confidential information, to teach children some reflexes to protect themselves, and to keep the doors closed and controlled, when they are in a different house.
