A VISIT TO THE SCIENCE CENTER

World Academy of Local Government and Democracy (WALD) and the International Organization for Migration (IOM) organized a trip to the Planetarium and Thematic exhibition area in Necmettin Erbakan Science and Culture Center on February 1, 2022 under the scope of Social Protection Project funded by United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR). The trip was organized with the participation of Turkish and foreign children residing in Sultangazi.

Before the touring of the venue, children were informed about the names and duties of the eight planets and the concepts of astronomy, sun, stars and astronauts. Psychologist Songül Oğur shared information with the participant children about celestial bodies, astronomy and etc. After giving information about the concepts, the participants watched a short animated video prepared by the Psychologist.

Interactive realization of the event was ensured by asking questions to the children aged 8 – 10 participating in the event. The questions were asked such as “Have you ever thought about what lies deep in the sky?”. After the thematic exhibition area was toured, the children studied the sky with a telescope.

The children, who had the opportunity to spend a pleasant day with different experiences, expressed their satisfaction by asking if such activities will continue in the future.
