WALD and UNHCR Visit to Mayor of Sultangazi

The delegation headed by Mehmet Duman, The Chairman of the World Academy for Local Government and Democracy (WALD) and Philippe Leclerc, the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) Turkey Representative, paid a courtesy visit together to Atty.Abdurrahman Dursun, Mayor of Sultangazi. During the visit, where migration and refugee policies were discussed and the “Social Cohesion and Access to Livelihoods Project” carried out by WALD, in cooperation with UNHCR and municipalities, since 2017 was evaluated.

The activities carried out in the field of migration and international protection were discussed during the meeting.  The necessity of the sustainability of cooperation between UNHCR, WALD and municipalities was emphasized. The importance of local governments' work on migration was highlighted. Mr. Leclerc stated that WALD plays a bridge role between international organizations and local governments in the field of refugees. Leclerc, who received information about WALD's services at the Social Protection Desks (SPD), thanked WALD for the works carried out.

After briefing session, UNHCR Turkey Representative Philippe Leclerc, UNHCR Marmara Regional Manager Atty. Elif Selen Ay and WALD Chairman of the Board Mehmet Duman visited WALD's Sultangazi Social Protection Desk.
