The Works on Refugees in the COVID-19 Process were evaluated in a Meeting under the Auspices of Gaziosmanpaşa District Governorship

WALD continues to provide services to municipalities, within the context of the project conducted in partnership with UNHCR in 11 districts in Istanbul. In this context, "Gaziosmanpaşa District-Level Coordination Meeting" was held on January 7, 2021,  under the auspices of the Gaziosmanpaşa District Governorship. Representatives from local governments, the Provincial Directorate of Migration Management, and other governmental institutions and organizations providing service to refugees in the district participated in the meeting. 

Gaziosmanpaşa District Governor Numan Hatipoğlu, informed participants about the current situation of refugees in the district. Following this, WALD Chairman of the Executive Board Mehmet Duman, moderated the meeting and briefed participants on the services provided in the Gaziosmanpaşa Social Protection Desk in the last year. He underlined that more refugees will benefit from these services thanks to these collaborations.

Meeting continued with the session in which representatives of public institutions presented the works, challenges, and solution proposals. In the meeting; Hülya Alper, WALD Academy Director, briefed participants about the "Supporting Innovative and Entrepreneur Women" a pilot project in Gaziosmanpaşa and Sultangazi municipalities. Within the scope of the project, she explained the success of 30 entrepreneur women by selling the products they produce in kitchens and sewing workshops in cooperation with Gaziposmanpaşa Municipality and stated that the project will be expanded and continued in 2021.

In the meeting; "Covid-19 Works and New Normalization Process in Turkey", "Provision for Refugee Legal Support and Social Counseling", "Access to Livelihood, workplace Regulatory Works", "Access to Health Care" and "Participation in Education Process of Refugees" with Social Cohesion and Mentoring Works” was evaluated under the agenda items. At the end of the meeting, the common understanding in the continuation of cooperation between institutions to increase the service quality was once again emphasized.
